This season, the Christian High football team is back in Division III, looking to seize another championship. After getting knocked out in the quarterfinals last year against Valhalla High School, Christian High has been moved from Division II back to Division III. It still remains a remarkable accomplishment for a small private school to be competing at this level with schools that by student population alone were once considered Division I.
Captains Joey Morones, Jonathan Stine, Isaac Rosenthal, and Ethan Contreras look to lead the team this season with early wins against Brawley and Monte Vista. This year, Christian High faces tough opponents in a new league, some of which include teams like Morse and Lincoln. In the past years, Christian High has been extremely successful in league games and has won several league championships. Offensive Coordinator David Beezer has consistently focused on being an excellent manager of the game, especially in running the 2 minute drill, which is often critical in close games. Coach Beezer said “Our schedule this year might be the toughest in school history, but we have a tough group of fighters that are excited to face the challenge, and if we execute and stay disciplined on both sides of the ball, we broaden our chances to win each week.” Lead by head coach Matt Oliver, the Christian High football team has been extremely successful in Division III, winning back to back championships.
Just prior to the season, Athletic Director and Offensive Coordinator David Beezer was seriously injured in a boating accident. With many prayers and Coach Beezer’s strong spirit, what should have been an extensive stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has been turned into an unexpected quick return to the football sideline coaching the Pats. Thankfully, Coach Beezer is continuing to recover from the accident. Our prayers continue to go out to Coach Beezer for a full recovery.
