On January 21, 2017, the day after the inauguration of President Trump, feminists held a demonstration mainly in Washington D.C. but also in hundreds of other locations, labeling it the Women’s March. The Washington Post concluded that the attendance was somewhere between 3.27 and 5.25 million people, with their best estimate being about 4.16 million people.
The Women’s March is an ideal example of the modern radicalization of popular feminism. Feminism began as an honest pursuit for equality, but it quickly molded itself into a victimized sexist organization bent on destroying the nuclear family. It currently fails to acknowledge real problems in society and instead focuses on fictitious concepts such as the patriarchy, the glass ceiling, and rape culture-the idea that American society promotes rape.
Participants of the Women’s March demonstrated against Donald Trump’s presidency; a common theme of the signs held was a detachment from reality. There were numerous signs calling Trump an “illegitimate” President to others equating abortion to a women’s health issue and even crying out against the lack of rights in the LGBT community.
It is unfortunate that past feminist movements have been perverted in the past few decades.
The first wave of feminism was a pursuit for voting rights. Women also sought equal education with men. On August 18,1920 women gained the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment. This wave of feminism had noble ideals and was a positive force in society.
The second wave of feminism focused on equality in the workplace during the 1960’s. As sexism in the workplace was thriving, women sought protection and equal pay. The second wave of feminism changed feminism’s focus with the repulsive support for safe, legal abortions.
The third wave of feminism polluted the nobility of the previous movements. It escalated the entitlement for abortion. The majority of modern feminists view abortion as a human right for women, ignoring the right of the fetus in the womb. According to Christian Life Resources, over 59 million fetuses have been aborted since the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Feminists have led this movement, justifying abortion by categorizing it as a women’s right issue.
The fourth wave of feminism has recently formed, being tracked back to 2012. The label “fourth wave” itself is a meek attempt for third wave feminists to detach themselves from the more radical feminists such as those participating in the Women’s March that dominate the leftist culture.
Modern feminism is threatening the nuclear family, including men, women, and children, which has held together American society for the past 300 years.
One way of doing this is by skewing masculinity. Men have been discouraged to enact their masculine features of leadership and athleticism as feminists have taken advantage of less authoritative men while demonizing those that take charge. They have correlated masculinity to sexism, where being a male inherently makes one sexist and part of the rape culture. As a result, many men have disconnected from their manhood, becoming submissive, unmotivated boys.
Likewise, feminists have also trivialized the traditional role of women. In recent history, women’s primary role was as caretakers of children. The first waves of feminism had supported the option of motherhood or equal rights in the workplace. Modern feminism is now deprecatory of any traditional gender roles, nearly forcing women out of the house. This role is crucial for a child’s development and can not be left vacant.
The proliferation of the mental disorder gender dysphoria among younger people (transgenderism) has largely stemmed from the feminist movement. Muddling the Biblical roles of men and women as well as destroying the nuclear family only confuses children. Third and fourth wave Feminists, distancing themselves from reality to demonize their own male children, encourage the depletion of masculine qualities in their children while encouraging feminine ones.
The children that do embrace the teachings of these radical feminists will often fall prey to mental illness in the form of gender dysphoria, somewhere stuck between being who they are taught to be and how God made them to be.
The Bible itself addresses these issues and the importance of gender roles and a nuclear family. Genesis 1:27 recognizes two different genders with roles by saying, “Male and female he created them.” God holds marriage in high regard, as he relates in Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all.” How should this marriage work? Ephesians 5:23 explains, “For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church.” Two verses later in Ephesians 5:25, God commands, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” This marriage is not a dictatorship, but rather Mark 10:8-9 explicates, “The two will become one flesh… Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
God placed immense importance on marriage and gender roles. While feminism seeks to destroy God’s perfect plan, the statistical effects are disastrous. The importance of the nuclear family in society, specifically the presence of a father, is invaluable. Children from fatherless homes account for the following: 63% of youth suicides (US Dept. of Health/Census), 71% of high school dropouts (National Principals Association Report), 70% of youths in state-operated institutions (U.S. Dept. of Justice), and 85% of all youths in prison (Fulton Co. Georgia, Texas Dept. of Correction).
While feminism began as a pursuit for equality, it has become an anti-Biblical group bent on obliterating the nuclear family.
